Course Goal

To provide a solid theoretical and practical training on the basic concepts, principles and principles of honey bee biology and bee breeding. The main objective of this course is to provide the students with the opportunity to use, benefit from and apply the basic beekeeping knowledge of this technique and application, which are given to the students who will be a candidate agricultural engineer.

Course Content

The history of beekeeping, the structure of beekeeping in the countries of the world, the systematic place of honey bees, the distribution of geographical bee races, their characteristics, the anatomy of the honey bee, feeding and mating behaviors, the composition of colony individuals, their life cycles; bee breeding and genetics, colony management, seasonal works, bee diseases and pests, bee products.

LO04 Learns the individuals forming the colony, their characteristics and their duties. Gains the bee colony management system.
LO05 Learns brood and adult bee diseases and pests of honey bees. Knows the classification of diseases according to factors. Learn to diagnose and treat diseases.
LO06 Learns the genetic structure of the honey bee, learns bee breeding, selection and mating methods. Learns artificial insemination of queen bee.
LO07 Learns the importance of bee products collected by honey bees from nature and the bee products produced from their body in terms of the colony and its chemical and physical structure.
LO08 Knows the legal regulations and sanctions on bee health,
LO09 Knows the social behavior characteristics of honey bees and the internal and external factors affecting the behavior.
LO10 Learns modern hive types and tools and equipment used in beekeeping.
LO11 Learns the nutritional physiology of honey bees. Knows plant sources of nectar, pollen and propolis.
LO12 Learns the works and preparations to be done in beekeeping in spring, swarm, honey, autumn and winter seasons.
LO13 Learns the communication mechanisms and functions in the colony, bee dances, pheromones and their effects.
