Course Goal

To teach the basic information about oral and dental health of children with preventive dentistry by means of lectures and clinical applications.

Course Content

This lesson includes the management of behavior in children, examination and diagnosis, craniofacial anomalies and treatment procedures applied in children.

Course Learning Outcomes

LO01 The classification of the child's psychological developmental stages according to different researchers and how to adapt and approach the child patient according to these developmental stages will be explained.
LO02 Anamnesis of the child patient, treatment planning, communication with the child and the parent, and permanent behavior change will be explained.
LO03 The diagnosis and symptoms of pulp diseases in primary teeth, differential features in the diagnosis of pulp diseases, treatment planning and patient follow-up and materials used will be explained.
LO04 Pulp diseases of young permanent teeth, indications for therapeutic indications in open or closed apex with vital or devital pulp of young permenant teeth, application techniques and materials used will be informed.
LO05 Classification and examination of dental injuries in children; Examination of diagnosis and treatment principles, splinting methods and protective dental applications.
LO06 Classification and examination of dental injuries that occur as a result of trauma in children's primary teeth; Diagnosis and treatment principles.
LO07 Analgesics used in dentistry, Pain control protocol in pediatric dentistry, Spread of Periapical infections, Antibiotic agents, Antibiotic usage areas in children and Antibiotic prophylaxis issues
LO08 The definition of sedation and general anesthesia, its indications in dentistry, and dental treatment procedures under sedation and general anesthesia in children will be explained.
LO09 the definition and classification of the disabled child, general characteristics, mouth symptoms, psychological status of these patients, clinical approach and dental treatment. In addition, dental general anesthesia and the protective dental approach to be applied to children with disabilities treated with sedatives is described.
LO10 Early orthodontic applications that can be done in primary and mixed dentition, to evaluate the types of space mainters applied to protect the occlusion in premature primary tooth loss, the precautions that can be taken and the occlusion relations between the space mainters.
LO11 in children with signs and symptoms of chewing system, biting forces, temporomandibular joint and joint disorders and parafunctional habits will be examined. New imaging systems will be evaluated and disturbances related to the chewing system will be monitored for their diagnosis and treatment
