Course Goal

To provide an understanding of the basic concepts of mechanics. To gain the right techniques for solving physics problems.

Course Content

Physics and Measurement, Motion in One Dimension, Vectors, Two Dimensional Motion, Laws of Motion, Circular Motion, Work and Energy, Potential Energy, Conservation of Energy, Linear Momentum and Collisions.

LO01 Learns to use basic concepts such as measurement error and basic units.
LO02 Learns the concepts of particle, displacement, velocity and acceleration. Learns the basic equations of motion with constant acceleration.
LO03 Learns Newton's laws of motion and how to use them.
LO04 Learns the equations of motion of bodies under the influence of static and friction force and calculating the unknowns in the equations.
LO05 Comprehends circular motion and its application to Newton's laws.
LO06 Learns the dynamics of rotational motion.
LO07 Learns that a force does work on an object and kinetic energy. Comprehends the correlation between the total work done and the change in kinetic energy.
LO08 Learns the concepts of energy, linear and angular momentum.
