Course Goal / Objective

This lesson aims to provide knowledge about microorganisms that exist in various ecosystems and used for environmental pollution control and gives knowledge about pathogens and nonpatogens like bacteria, fungi, protozoa algae and viruses including their environmental requirements, controls, metabolisms, investigation methods and systematics of microorganisms for Environmental Engineers.

Course Content

Definition and brief history of microbiology, basic concepts related with the microscope, classification of microorganisms, basic features and biology of microorganisms, nutrition, and environmental requirements of microorganisms, microbial growth, energy and enzymes, microbial metabolism, microbial genetics, bacteria, fungi, molds, algae, protozoa, viruses.
