Course Goal

To gain knowledge on the terminology and formation of sedimentary basins; To teach the tectonic settings of the basins; to introduce the depositional system and sequential properties of the sedimentary basins.

Course Content

Introduction, definitions and classifications of basins and environments, tectonic basin classification, pre-syn and post depositional basins, basin morphologies, basin evolution; rift basins, marginal and slope basins, intracratonic basins, continental and intracratonic basins; deep marine trenches, forearc and backarc basins, remnant and foreland basins, pull-apart basins.
