Course Goal

The course combines different sources of information to present the current understanding of how, when and why food production began in the Near East and other parts of the Eurasia.

Course Content

The beginning of food production was a long process that occurred independently in several parts of the world. Evidence for this process comes from archaeology (analysis of material culture), paleobotany and palynology, zooarchaeology, chemistry, and other supporting disciplines. The course reviews the evidence and its interpretation for the beginning of food production in the Near East and other parts of Eurasia.
