Course Goal

Students will gain new knowledge and skills by about gasoline engines.

Course Content

1-History of engines, Some important definitions of gasoline engines. 2-Working principle and comparison of four and two-stroke engines. Intake and exhaust systems. Fuel system and its components. 3- Combustion phenomenon, ignition system, tasks and types. Theoretical and practical cycle formations in Otto engines are learned. Theoretical Otto cycle problems 4-Practical otto cycle problems. 5- Fuel injection systems (activators, combined systems (motronic), their task superiority) Spark plugs, single point injection system, circuit diagram and working system, multi point injection system. K-Jetronic injection system. 6- sensors. Magnetic sensor, knock sensor. Hall effect controlled electronic ignition system. Electronic ignition system with inductive transmitter. Distributorless type electronic ignition system, distributor-excited system, ECU, Coils. Structural features of gasoline engines, formulas of basic calculations of the engine. 7-Stroke volume, mixture volume, calculation of the actual compression ratio of the engine. Finding the combustion end pressure, finding the expansion end temperature of the engine. Calculation of the actual compression ratio, calculation of the compression end pressure and temperature. Finding the combustion end pressure of the engine. 8-Midterm exam 9-Moving and fixed parts that make up the gasoline engine. 10-Moving and fixed parts that make up the gasoline engine. 11-Valve timing diagram, purpose, ignition advance, calculations. 12-The structure and operation of the valve mechanism. Camshaft, catalytic converter. 13-Fuels used in gasoline engines and their properties. 14-The importance of the lubrication system, its function, the properties sought in oils. Lubrication and cooling equipment. 15-The importance of the lubrication system, its function, the properties sought in oils. Lubrication and cooling equipment. 16-Final exam
