Course Goal / Objective
To teach the energy band structure and electonic properties of semiconductors.
Course Content
Experimental techniques to study the band structure of semiconductors, crystal structure determinations using x-rays, charge density determination using x-rays, temperature dependence of x-ray reflections, the electronic structure of Si, Ge and GaAs, diamond and zinc-blende sutructure semiconductors, Hall effect, Magneto-phonon effect, cylotron frequency, resistivity and conductivity tensors for a two dimensional system, quantization of Hall resistivity, Localized and extended states, Fractional quantum Hall effect, Subjects of common interest.
