Course Goal

To teach the applications of age determination by luminescence methods and sample preparation protocols.

Course Content

Age determination techniques based on radioactive decay, Age determination by thermoluminescence (TL) method, Age determination by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) method, Quartz and Feldspar separation techniques, Sample preparation protocols, Equivalent dose measurement protocols, Determination of annual dose and age, Use of gamma spectrometry in annual dose calculations, Use of luminescence dosimeters in annual dose calculations, Error calculations in age determination, Limitations and special problems in age determination.

LO10 Summarizes the calculations of errors in dating and the limitations encountered in age determination.
