Course Goal

Understanding the the fundemental concepts, functions and main areas of management; learning different farm accouinting systems; being able to interprete performance related farm documents such as balance sheet, income statement and cash-flow budgets; learning fundamental principles of depreciation and assessment; making cost and return calculations for farm products; interpretation of several budgets: enterprise budgets, farm plans and partial budgets. Making decisions on investments.

Course Content

Concepts related to farm management; functions of management; strategic and tactical farm management; classification of farms; characteristic differences between farm and non-farm businesses; farm records; accounting systems; inventory and balance sheet; evaluation of the results of annual activities; income statement; enterprise budgest; whole farm plan; enterprise selection and farm plan; cash flow budgets; partial budgets; cost and return calculation for agricultural products; investment analysis.
