Course Goal

Most of marine Teleost fishes produce planktonic eggs and larvae. Until gaining active swimming capacity, these forms are called as ichthyoplankton. This course will give the basic knowledge on the ontogenic development of fishes and the embriyonic and larval morphology. In context of the course laboratory applications will be performed on the identification of eggs and larvae of main groups in the Mediterranean ichthyoplankton.

Course Content

Spawning of fishes and ichthyoplankton, Sampling and fixation methods for ichthyoplankton, Ichthyoplankton data in fishery science and marine biology, Morphology and identification of fish eggs, prelarvae and postlarvae, laboratory applications on the identification of main groups in the Mediterranean ichthyoplankton
