Course Goal / Objective
To give information about destructive and nondestructive quality evaluation systems and new technologies, to explain the nondestructive sorting methods used in packaging house, to investigate the effect of mechanical properties of agricultural products on the design of sorting systems
Course Content
Damaged product quality evaluation methods, techniques used to determine the mechanical properties of fruit hardness (bore tip: cylindrical and spherical end tests, double plate tests, check tests), Magness-Taylor hardness measurement, nondestrucvtive product quality evaluation methods, Elastisity and Hertz The use of the theory in undamaged product quality assessment, contact product quality evaluation methods, low mass impulse techniques, acoustic measurement techniques, ultrasonic techniques, non-contact product quality evaluation methods (intrinsic property), NIR: near infrared techniques, NMR: nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, image processing techniques (color and size)
