Course Goal

The aim of this course is to introduce the surface structure of solids and solids interface properties, to comprehend the analysis of solid surfaces by scanning probe techniques.

Course Content

Surface structure, ideal flat surfaces, bimetallic surfaces, band structure of semiconductors and insulating solids, scanning probe techniques, chemical adsorption, physical adsorption, adsorption desorption thermodynamics, adsorption isotherms, complex surface reactions, catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis, catalysis kinetics.
