Course Goal

Having knowledge about the nature of the political-creedal sects that rose in the early years of Islam as well as about the general characteristics of the conception of religion within which these sect are founded, and gaining skills of analysis, interpretation and comparison within the field

Course Content

The content of the concepts of religion, sect, religious community and Sufi order, the relationship of religion and sect, sectarian typologies according to their mindsets; methods and techniques to be followed in the studies of History of Islamic Sects; the earliest sects in the history of Islamic thought; the reasons behind the rise of sects, their important figures, historical backgrounds, principal doctrines, sub-groups, the regions into which they are spread, their literature, contribution to Islamic thought and manifestations in todays world

Course Precondition

To have taken compulsory and elective courses.
