Course Goal

The course consists of suggestions, analysis, design proposals and sustainable project practices for the usability and sustainability of traditional elements with cultural, social and artistic features in today's contemporary design field. Design activity; art, craft and industry, creativity and commerce, style and usage, design discourses, production and consumption contexts will be discussed in the process from the end of the twentieth century to the present, and will be discussed with a rich presentation.

Course Content

Culture, cultural identity relationship, cultural values, cultural diversity, creativity, contemporary design concept, modernization. This course covers design culture, including craft as well as modern design perspectives. The course offers the opportunity to explore the current issues as well as the history of design culture in Turkey; discusses identity in design in social, cultural, technical, industrial and political contexts. Modernization, design culture and aesthetics will be discussed along with related aesthetic and spatial practices and with a wide variety of examples. The course, which will be supported by the comprehensive definitions of design culture that blurs the boundaries between fields, on-site visits and the presentation of archival materials, also aims to create a resource for the future.
