Course Goal / Objective
To determine the importance of fatty acids in fish nutrition. To evaluate essential fatty acids for fish. To explain what are the signs of fatty acid needs and dietary deficiencies of different fish species and how much should be present in the diets at the stages of fish farming.
Course Content
The structure of fatty acids. Essential fatty acids required for aquatic life. Essential fatty acids for fish. Biological synthesis of fatty acids. Effect of fatty acids on growth performance and body composition of fish. Fatty acid metabolism in marine fishery products. Fatty acid needs and dietary deficiencies of different fish species. Differences between fatty acid requirements of marine and freshwater fish. Effect of fatty acids on growth performance and body composition of fish. Fatty acid sources in fish diets.
