Course Goal / Objective

To educate students as individuals who recognize the richness of the Turkish language, can express themselves effectively both in writing and speaking, successfully use Turkish in both social interactions and professional life, accurately express themselves in oral and written communication, and possess a high level of language awareness.

Course Content

1) What is language? Characteristics of language and the relationship between language and culture 2) Types of language and various definitions of language 3) An overview of theories on the origin of languages and the classification of world languages based on their structure and origin 4) Historical periods of the Turkish language 5) Language studies before and after the Republic 6) Phonetics 7) Spelling rules and punctuation marks 8) Official correspondence and types of official documents (written in the form of a purpose statement)

LO04 Explains the historical Turkish written languages in Anatolia that contributed to the formation of modern Turkish.
LO05 Describes the types and characteristics of oral and written expression, and can create sample oral and written texts.
LO06 Explains the importance of language in human life, which is the most significant feature distinguishing humans from other living beings.
LO07 Can list the identified language families in the world and classify major languages.
LO08 Defines what sound is, explains the characteristics of sounds, phonetic events, and the causes of these phonetic events.
