Course Goal / Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce the basic machine elements used in the industry, to make people understand the relationships between important machine elements and to provide strength calculation and design skills in the field of mechanical systems.

Course Content

Basic concepts, materials, machine elements and Explanation of strength relationships. Surface quality, standards and tolerances. Fasteners, soldering, welding, shaft-hub connections. Shrink fit, conical fit, pins. Rivets and their calculations, wedges, their types and calculations. Bolts, nuts and studs. Gear mechanisms and calculations. Belts and pulleys. Clutches, gearboxes, moment and torque calculations. Springs and chain mechanisms. Pulley and ropes. Shafts and trunnions. Axles and bearings.
