Course Goal / Objective

This is the study of the pathways of amino acid and protein metabolism; emphasis on degradation and biosynthesis of amino acids and their derivatives; and inborn errors of amino acid metabolism. It also describes the urea cycle, ketogenicity, glucogenicity, creatine and creatinine metabolism and protein catabolism.

Course Content

This course includes to describe the different types of amino acids, the covalent backbone of proteins and the biological functions of proteins, the oxidative degradation of amino acids and metabolism of one -carbon units. the inborn errors of amino acid metabolism. Describe the urea cycle. Explain the pathways leading to ketogenicity and glucogenicity. Describe the pathways for protein catabolism. Discuss the pathways of creatine and creatinine metabolism.
