Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to develop their professional foreign language proficiency in the field of law and to gain the ability to understand, interpret and effectively use international legal texts. It aims to have a command of legal terminology, learn academic and professional writing rules and strengthen their oral communication skills. Thus, students will be able to play an active role in international legal processes and will have the competence to create legal arguments in a foreign language in their professional careers.
Course Content
This course aims to develop the professional foreign language skills of law students and professionals working in the field of law. Within the scope of the course, basic legal concepts, contracts, petitions, court decisions and legal correspondence will be studied, focusing on the Anglo-American legal system and international legal terminology. In addition to developing academic and professional reading and comprehension skills, students will have the opportunity to practice creating oral and written legal arguments. In addition, international court decisions and legal texts will be examined and evaluated from a comparative law perspective. The course aims to increase students' command of legal English by supporting interactive studies and case studies.
