Course Goal / Objective
The course aims to discuss the new media ecosystem in social, political, cultural, and economic contexts and to examine the new research methods and techniques used in scientific studies in the field of new media.
Course Content
Within the scope of the course, advancements in the Internet Technologies are examined through global reports. New business models and new media journalism are examined too. Transmedia storytelling is discussed through examples and practices. Concepts such as surveillance in new media milieus, participatory culture, big data, platform capitalism, digital labor, and political economy approaches to new media are discussed through the works of scholars/researchers working in the field of new media. New media research methods and techniques such as text-based analysis of web contents and netnography are examined through scientific articles and applied to an authentic research design.
