Course Goal / Objective
In this course, we will explore the various ways in which cinema experiences have been reconfigured due to economic, political, social, and cultural transformations. We will examine the evolution of cinema audiences and audience images, as well as the role of cinematic spaces and experiences of these spaces in shaping our understanding of film. We will also consider the impact of technological advancements on cinema viewing experiences, and how urban transformations have affected the cinematic landscape.
Course Content
Topics covered in this course include: • The historical evolution of cinema audiences and the ways in which cinema has adapted to changing societal norms and expectations. • The role of cinema spaces in shaping our experiences of film, from traditional cinema halls to outdoor screenings and virtual environments. • The impact of technological advancements, such as streaming services and virtual reality, on cinema viewing experiences. • The changing representations of audience members in cinema, including gender, race, and class. • The impact of urban transformations, such as gentrification and the rise of the multiplex, on the cinematic landscape. Throughout the course, we will analyze case studies and engage in critical discussions to deepen our understanding of how cinema experiences have evolved and continue to evolve in response to various societal, cultural, and technological factors.
