Course Goal / Objective
The aim of the course is for students to learn the main concepts and approaches regarding gender, to be aware of the problems and consequences of the patriarchal cultural structure in social life, and to gain the ability to develop suggestions for the solution of such problems. In addition, it is among the main objectives of the course that students will gain the ability to critically evaluate gendered representations in various media outputs such as news, advertisements, TV programs, social media texts, photographs, and popular culture products.
Course Content
The general content of the course includes the concepts of sex and gender, social division of labor and gender roles, stereotypes about gender, theories about gender, and feminist approaches. In addition, in the course that requires examining the issue of gender in the context of media, various formats produced in the media will be examined, and representations of femininity and masculinity in media content (news text, advertisement, photography, images, TV series, TV programs, internet texts, etc.) will be analyzed.
