Course Goal / Objective

Understanding the design principles for System on Chip. Theoric design of a SOC on an application area selected by the students and functional verification of the design on a simulation platform.

Course Content

This content of this course involves the discussion of Moore's law and its results in the context of system on chip design. Technological advancement improved chip area and made it possible to place more and more units in a single chip (SOC). In this course, the following issues will be covered. CMOS technology, components of SOC designs, applications of SOC, memory management of SOCs, multi-processor CPU cores and their placement on modern SOCs, power management and cost issues.

Course Precondition

No prerequisite.
