Course Goal / Objective

The course will focus on the understanding of transport processes for water, gases, solutes, and heat in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. Important soil, plant and climate properties (physical, chemical, and biological) which influence transport processes will be characterized in the field and laboratory conditions. Hence, energy and mass flows in the soil-plant-atmoshere continuun will be modelled.

Course Content

Fundamental soil physics, soil water content, soil water energy; soil-root-stem-leaf water potentials, root to shoot water, ion and hormon transitions, heat transfer, plant and crop evapotranspirations and energy balance methods, water and salt balance in the root-zone, water and effects of mineral in the root-zone and climatic factors on the transpiration and photosynthesis rate, measurement of soil and plant water status under laboratuary and field conditions.
