Course Goal / Objective

To have knowledge on the terminology of structural geology; to inform the students about the structures formed within the rocks and on its surface; to gain the theoretical and practical knowledge on the geological events and related structures and interpret the geological maps; increase the thinking ability on three dimension.

Course Content

Introduction and general terminology, various forces in geological sense, stress, strain (deformation), rock deformations, physical properties of rocks; tectonic structures, faults, folds, foliations, lineations; attitude of planar structures, attitude of linear structures, stereographic projection techniques, stereographic solutions with folds, joints, joint analysis, faults, stereographic solutions with faults.
