Course Goal / Objective

The objective of the Spring semester for the "Art Criticism and Methods" course is to educate students in contemporary art criticism approaches, theories, and methodologies, enabling them to critically assess artworks within a framework of global and cultural diversity. This course aims to enhance students' understanding and application of contemporary forms of criticism such as feminist and postcolonial critiques, and the intersection of art and technology. Additionally, it seeks to develop students' abilities to analyze the social and political impacts of art and to critically evaluate art institutions and policies. Through this course, students will internalize ethical standards and professionalism, preparing them to be effective critics in both academic and professional arenas.

Course Content

The content of the "Art Criticism and Methods" course for the Spring semester focuses on contemporary art criticism methods, theories, and practices. Students will deeply explore the interactions between art and technology, and study modern forms of criticism such as feminist and postcolonial critiques in detail. Additionally, the course will examine how artworks are interpreted within their global and cultural contexts, and the effects these contexts have on their interpretations. Throughout the course, students will enhance their skills in analyzing the social and political impacts of art and critically evaluating art institutions and policies. They will also have opportunities to practice critical thinking, effective communication, and academic writing techniques. Special emphasis will be placed on ethical standards and professionalism, with the goal of internalizing these values to prepare students to become effective critics in both academic and professional environments.
