Course Goal / Objective

Thermodynamic analysis of internal combustion engines; Integration with the basic, internal combustion engine concept.

Course Content

Combustion event in gasoline and diesel engines, measurement of combustion event. Burned mass fraction and heat release rate measurement methods. Flame spread and wrinkling analysis. In-cylinder gas velocity measurement and turbulence analysis. Formation of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and soot emissions. Exhaust gas treatment.
