Course Goal / Objective

It is aimed to teach and gain competence in heat treatment, its stages, techniques, surface hardening stages and ways, properties and phase changes after heat treatment in steel.

Course Content

Introduction to heat treatment of steels. Alloying elements in steel. Time Temperate Transformation (TTT) diagrams. Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) curves. Hardening and tempering of tool steels. Decomposition of martensite and retained austenite on tempering. Dimensional changes during hardening and tempering of tool steels. Metallurgical examination of steels.
