Course Goal / Objective

To understand the principles of using microorganisms in the disposal of wastes from industries. To provide the nature of industrial wastewater and the recognition of xenobiotics and recalcitrant substances in these wastewater.

Course Content

Introduction to industrial microbiology, microbial cell structure and functions, microbial growth and nutrition, metabolism. Bioprocesses in industrial wastewater treatment, continuous and intermittent system cultures of microorganisms, aerobic and anaerobic metabolism, microbiology of wastewater treatment, biological decomposition of industrial organic substances, inhibition agents affecting the treatment. Quantitative determination of micro-organisms in wastewater treatment, biokinetic. Biological treatment of industrial wastewater, determination of appropriate treatment methods, types of predominant microorganisms in treatment.
