Course Goal / Objective

To provide students with fundamental knowledge of anaerobic treatment processes, microbial mechanisms, biochemical reactions, and process design principles. Additionally, the course aims to develop students’ ability to evaluate the efficiency of anaerobic treatment systems and select appropriate systems for different wastewater types.

Course Content

Fundamental principles of anaerobic treatment, anaerobic microbial metabolism and biochemical reactions, methane formation and microbial community dynamics, anaerobic digestion and hydrolysis processes, types of anaerobic reactors (UASB, EGSB, anaerobic filter, etc.), design criteria for anaerobic treatment systems, operational parameters and efficiency evaluation, biogas production and energy recovery, problems encountered in anaerobic treatment processes and solution strategies.

Course Precondition

Students are expected to have a fundamental understanding of biological treatment processes and microbiology.
