Course Goal / Objective
Detailed examination of molecular breeding principles in plants
Course Content
Overview of classical plant breeding and marker technology, Molecular plant breeding and its history, Molecular breeding and its basics, Molecular marker (RAPD, SSR, AFLP, SNP...) and mutation detection technologies (TILLING, ecotilling). Marker development for the gene of interest, Characterization and mapping of Quantitative Loci (QTL), Genetic basis of Quantitative Loci, QTL mapping, Selection with the help of markers (MAS), marker-based population screening, creation of marker-based gene pyramids. Plant genetic engineering, important genes In terms of plant genetic resources, genomic issues in molecular plant breeding will be examined in detail, literature searches will be made to follow up new developments on the subject.
