Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with the ability to analyse and evaluate the effects of the reflections of economic developments in Turkey from the first years of the Republic to the present day.

Course Content

The topics to be covered include the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Republic of Turkey from an economic perspective, 1930s and statism, economic liberalization in the period of 1950-1960, development plans and import-substitution policies for industrialization after 1960, 24 January 1980 economic measures and export-oriented industrialization experience of Turkey, financial liberalization in the 1990s and economic crises of 1994 and 2000-2001.
