Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is; to describe the physiological events in plants

Course Content

Cell-tissue-organ definition. Water and mineral uptake and transport of substances. Transpiration, respiration, photosynthesis, transport of organic matter. Growth and development physiology (fitokrom system, plant growth regulators, flowering, stress physiology).

LO01 Being able to comprehend mainly physiological events important in especially production of horticultural plants and understand their importance in growing of horticultural plants
LO02 Being able to comprehend plant structure; cell and organelles with specialized functions
LO03 Being able to comprehend the structure and properties of water, its importance and place in horticultural plant growing
LO04 Being able to comprehend how acquisition and using of mineral nutrients by plants
LO05 Being able to comprehend the reactions carried out in transpiration and photosynthesis and comment their physiological and ecological importance in horticultural plant growing
LO06 Being able to examine translocation pathways, patterns, rates, mechanism of the plant of organic compounds resulted from photosynthesis and theirs distribution among different organs of the plant
LO07 Being able to comprehend how the respiration is metabolically occurred in plants, its certain specific characteristics of the plant, establish relationship between the recent developments in biochemistry and molecular biology and respiration, comprehend the lipid metabolism and its importance in seed germination.
LO08 Being able to examine the physiological events occurred in growth and development of plants (from embryogenesis to senescence and cell died).
LO09 Being able to comprehend the phytochrome system, its mechanism on the plant at the cellular and molecular level and comment light importance on plant development.
LO10 Being able to comprehend description and classificaton of plant growth regulators, biosynthesis, metabolism and transportation of auxin, cyctokinin, gibberellin, abscisic acid and ethylene and examine their physiological effects on the plants.
LO11 Being able to comprehend the physiological events in plants caused to flower development (circadian rhytims, photoperiodism, vernelization), examine the flower development and its control.
LO12 Being able to comprehend germination physiology, internal and external factors affected the germination, dormancy.
LO13 Being able to comprehend stress physiology (water, heat, salinity, air pollution) and comment its importance in horticultural plants.
