Course Goal / Objective

To teach the basic information about oral and dental health of children with preventive dentistry by means of lectures and clinical applications.

Course Content

This lesson includes the management of behavior in children, examination and diagnosis, craniofacial anomalies and treatment procedures applied in children.

Course Learning Outcomes

LO01 Classifies the psychological development stages of the child according to different researchers and describes how to adapt and approach the child patient according to these developmental stages.
LO02 Reports the pediatric patient's history and treatment planning; communicate with the child and parent and provides information to ensure permanent behavioral change.
LO03 Defines the diagnosis of pulp diseases in primary teeth, their symptoms, and distinguishing features in the diagnosis of pulp diseases; Performs treatment planning and patient follow-up and classifies the materials used.
LO04 Describes the distinctive features in the diagnosis of pulp diseases in young permanent teeth, treatment indications and application techniques in young permanent teeth with vital or non-vital pulps with open and closed apex; classifies the materials used in these applications, as well as the latest opinions on the materials used.
LO05 Defines the classification and examination of dental injuries that occur as a result of trauma to permanent teeth in children; Defines diagnosis and treatment principles, splinting methods and protective practices.
LO06 Classifies and examines dental injuries that occur as a result of trauma to primary teeth in children, and defines the principles of diagnosis and treatment.
LO07 Defines analgesic drugs used in dentistry, explains the pain control protocol in pediatric dentistry, areas of antibiotic use in children and antibiotic prophylaxis.
LO08 The definition of sedation and general anesthesia, its indications in dentistry, and dental treatment procedures under sedation and general anesthesia in children will be explained.
LO09 Knows the oral findings in children requiring special care and the clinical and psychological approach methods to these patients.
LO10 Knows the occlusion relationships in primary and mixed dentition in children; classifies the space maintainers used to maintain occlusion in cases of early primary tooth loss.
LO11 in children with signs and symptoms of chewing system, biting forces, temporomandibular joint and joint disorders and parafunctional habits will be examined. New imaging systems will be evaluated and disturbances related to the chewing system will be monitored for their diagnosis and treatment
