Course Goal / Objective

Explains the subjects and applications of modern physics. It gives different examples of the subjects and applications of modern physics. Relates the topics and applications of modern physics to daily life.

Course Content

Special Relativity: Time Dilation, Doppler Effect, Length Contraction, Gemini Dilemma. Relativistic Momentum, Mass and Energy, Lorentz Transform, Particle Properties of Waves: Electromagnetic Waves, Blackbody Radiation, Photoelectric Effect, What is Light, X-rays, Compton Effect, Pair Formation , Photons and gravity, Wave Properties of Particles: De Broglie Waves, Probability waves, Description of a wave, Phase and Group velocities, Diffraction of particles, Particle in a box, Uncertainty principle and Applications, Atomic Structure: Nucleated Atom, Electron Orbitals, Atomic Spectra, Bohr Atom , Energy Levels and Spectra, Reciprocity Principle, Motion of the Nucleus, Excitation of the Atom, Laser, Quantum Mechanics: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, Wave Equation, Schröedinger Equation: Time Dependent Form, Expected Values, Processors, Finite Potential Well, Tunnel Effect, Harmonic Oscillator
