Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with basic knowledge about the characteristics, needs and educational approaches of individuals with special needs. This course aims to inform students about the basic concepts, legal regulations and ethical principles used in the field of special education. It aims to introduce students to different types of disabilities (mental disability, learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, visual impairment, hearing impairment, etc.) in detail and to teach individualized education programs, behavior management strategies, assistive technologies, etc.) and to gain the ability to apply these methods effectively.

Course Content

The history, goals and principals of special education; the reasons for disabilities (prenatal, during and post natal reasons); the hearing impaired; the partially-sighted; the physically handicapped; the mentally retarded; persons with learning disabilities; persons with speaking and language disabilities; children with adjustment problems; the role and involvement of family on special education; the inclusive education of special needs kids; the importance and goals of inclusive education; the inclusive education models.
