Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the structural investigations that will be conducted by a field geologist at the master's level. It teaches how to recognize and interpret different deformations in rocks caused by stress and compression, structures such as fractures and joints, folds, and how to determine and interpret linear and planar structures, measure them, and integrate them into geological/structural maps. It also covers the analysis of data collected from the field.

Course Content

The content of this course includes the determination and assessment of tectonic deformations in rocks, including the direction and amount of deformation, analysis of folds, foliation, linear structures observed in rocks and their evaluation, characteristic features of faults and shear zones, fracture systems, determination and interpretation of multi-stage deformations.
