Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course, to teach general description and features of target, by-catch and discard terminology in fishing gear and according to fishing gears for the reduction of by-catch and discard is to show what can be done.

Course Content

General description and features of target, bycatch and discard terminology. Dimension of the problem in Turkish and world fisheries. Grids, escape windows, material and rigging changes used particulary in trawl fisheries in order to reduce the bycatch, and adaptation of such relatively selective devices to commerciel fisheries.
