Course Goal / Objective
To teach the concept of biodiversity and to ensure awareness of the elements that make up this concept. To raise students' awareness about the importance of plant biodiversity globally and for our country. To ensure awareness of the consequences of loss of vegetal biodiversity and the importance of preserving biodiversity for the future of humanity.
Course Content
Definition of biodiversity and factors affecting biodiversity. Plant biodiversity and endemic species, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity. Importance and conservation of plant biodiversity, floristic appearance and geographical distribution around the world. Türkiye's plant biodiversity and comparison with neighboring countries. Protection of natural areas (national parks and nature reserves) in terms of plant biodiversity. Revealing the roles that plant biodiversity in Turkey may play in the future. It is a discussion of factors that threaten biodiversity and solution proposals on a global scale.
