Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the functions of various ion channels in smooth muscle and their pharmacological importance.

Course Content

Types of smooth muscles, Basic mechanisms that provide contraction and relaxation of smooth muscles, Importance of ion channels in smooth muscle functions, Ion channels in smooth muscles, Voltage-gated ion channels, Ligand-gated ion channels, Other ion channels, Ion channel functions in smooth muscles and treatment approaches-I, Ion channel functions in smooth muscle and therapeutic approaches-II, Pharmacological agents that increase ion channel activity in smooth muscle-I, Pharmacological agents that increase ion channel activity in smooth muscle-II, Pharmacological agents that decrease ion channel activity in smooth muscle-I, Pharmacological agents that decrease ion channel activity in smooth muscle-II, R&D studies on ion channels in smooth muscle
