Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with an in-depth analysis of the legal regulations, employer and employee obligations, control mechanisms and sanctions for the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases by addressing occupational health and safety law in an advanced conceptual and normative framework. In addition, the course aims to provide students with a comparative law perspective and the ability to identify structural problems related to occupational health and safety and develop solution proposals.
Course Content
The course begins with the historical development of occupational health and safety law and continues with national legislation as well as ILO conventions, EU regulations and comparative law reviews. The employer's duty of supervision, risk assessment in the workplace, preventive and protective measures, work accidents and occupational diseases, the role of labor inspectors, sanction mechanisms and judicial decisions constitute the main areas of study of the course. In addition, sector-based occupational health and safety problems and legal reform proposals are also discussed.
