Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to enable participants to understand the basic concepts, economic and political foundations of contemporary competition law, analyze current problems regarding the protection of competition in goods and services markets and develop solution proposals. Within the scope of the course, horizontal and vertical agreements between enterprises, cartels, joint ventures, distribution agreements, abuse of dominant position and the effects of the digital economy on competition law will be discussed within the framework of Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition. In addition, a comparative perspective will be presented with European Union competition law regulations, and it is aimed to develop the skills of participants to follow current developments and to produce critical solutions to problems encountered in practice.
Course Content
This course aims to teach participants the basic building blocks of contemporary competition law, starting with the basic concepts of competition law and competition economics theory. The course will cover topics such as the structure and procedures of the Competition Authority, horizontal and vertical agreements restricting competition, determination and abuse of dominant position, and evaluation of mergers and acquisitions in terms of competition law. In addition, sanctions related to competition violations, judicial review of board decisions, compensation cases arising from competition violations, and competition problems in labor markets will be examined. Competition practices in digital markets and European Union competition law regulations are also among the important topics of the course. Throughout the course, lecture, discussion, research studies, and presentation methods will be used; participants will be supported in their ability to develop both theoretical and practical solutions.
