Course Goal / Objective

The objective of this course is to provide students with knowledge regarding metals, inorganic compounds, and radioactive substances that cause poisoning in animals.

Course Content

The characteristics and sources of metals that cause poisoning in animals, their toxicity, toxicokinetics, mechanism of action, clinical signs and lesions, necropsy findings, diagnosis, laboratory analysis results, and treatment.

LO02 Describe nitrate and nitrite, along with their salts, found in feed, feed raw materials, soil, and water.
LO03 Evaluate the properties and sources of nitrate, nitrite, and salt, as well as their toxicokinetics, toxicity, mechanism of action, clinical signs and lesions, necropsy findings, and laboratory analysis results.
LO04 List accidental poisonings in domestic animals caused by acids and alkalis that manifest as localized burns and cauterization.
LO05 Explain the causes, mechanism of action, clinical signs and lesions, necropsy findings, diagnosis, and treatment of poisoning caused by acids and alkalis.
LO06 Describe the teratogenic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic effects of radioactive substances in living organisms, as well as severe burns resulting from radiation-induced heat.
LO07 Classify the mechanisms of action of radioactive substances.
LO08 Explain the toxic effects of radioactive substances, radioactive emitters and their sources, and naturally occurring radiation emitters.
