Course Goal / Objective

The main purpose of this course is to examine the development and change processes in the physical, socioemotional, and cognitive domains that occur during the aging process.

Course Content

This course covers the definition of the aging process and the history of scientific studies on aging; the demographic characteristics of older adults in our country and around the world; the research methods used in aging studies; and the psychological, physical, and socioemotional changes that occur during the aging process. Approximately 75% of the course content will be based on the textbook, while the remaining 25% will come from research published on the subject within the last three years and discussed during the course.

LO06 They recognize mental health issues that frequently arise in late adulthood and are familiar with various types of therapy.
LO07 It identifies the developmental pathways leading to the successful aging process and explains under which conditions these pathways can occur.
LO08 It provides knowledge on the phenomenon of death and explains effective coping techniques for the grieving process of individuals.
