Course Goal / Objective

The aim of the course is to provide students with a multidimensional perspective on transnational crimes, which have increased with the process of globalisation, enabling them to understand the structure, causes and effects of these crimes on societies. The course will analyse how global threats such as organised crime, terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and cybercrime are addressed within the framework of international law, as well as the strategies employed to combat these crimes and the mechanisms of cooperation between law enforcement agencies.

Course Content

The course will begin by examining the concept of transnational crime and its historical development. This will be followed by a detailed examination of fundamental types of transnational crime, such as organised crime, terrorism, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, drug and arms trafficking, and cybercrime. The role of international organisations (Interpol, Europol, the United Nations, etc.) in combating these crimes, as well as multilateral agreements and regional cooperation mechanisms, will be evaluated. Additionally, topics such as information sharing, operational cooperation, and border security practices among law enforcement agencies in the fight against transnational crime will be among the important topics covered in the course.
