Course Goal / Objective

This lecture aims to specialize in subjects including the specific characteristics, functioning, and the required structuring juvenile criminal law system, which is a subfield of juvenile law and comes into play with juvenile delinquency. It is aimed for students to be able to analyze legislation, court decisions and current practices in the light of the general principles of juvenile criminal law, to have the knowledge and skills to evaluate the discussions on these issues and to propose solutions.

Course Content

The lecture on juvenile criminal law and juvenile justice covers the general principles of juvenile criminal law, the fundamental doctrines governing it, the structure and characteristics of the criminal justice institutions involved after juvenile delinquency, the rules concerning the trial of minors, and finally, how to respond to offenses either through punishment or protective measures. These topics are addressed within the framework of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), the Turkish Code of Criminal Procedure (CMK), the Child Protection Law, relevant legislation, and judicial decisions.
