Course Goal / Objective
The primary intent centers on getting construction technician candidates to understand the earthquake phenomenon alongside the nature of seismic loads acting on buildings. We want them competent in the actual construction phases of earthquake-resistant structures, guided strictly by TEC-2018 framework. Students need to interpret soil behavior well before any physical construction begins. They must also learn to set up reinforcement arrangements on-site that comply with earthquake codes, spot structural irregularities directly from project blueprints, and conduct field inspections to minimize manufacturing flaws at the associate degree level.
Course Content
Fundamentals of earthquake engineering mixed with the seismicity of Türkiye. Core principles of TEC-2018 and navigating seismic hazard maps. Structural dynamics coupled with the concept of ductility. Soil dynamics and understanding the liquefaction mechanism. Reinforcement rules dictating earthquake safety in reinforced concrete load-bearing elements, specifically targeting columns, beams, shear walls, and foundations. Seismic isolation technologies. Pinpointing structural irregularities alongside common manufacturing mistakes encountered in the field. Damage assessment methods supported by real-world site case studies.
