Course Goal / Objective

The Machine Elements and Quality Knowledge course aims to teach students the design principles, working mechanisms, and calculation methods of the fundamental components that make up mechanical systems, while also equipping them with the quality control techniques and measurement-control methods necessary to ensure these components meet international standards in their production processes. Accordingly, the course aims to develop students' ability to create solutions meeting industrial standards by combining technical knowledge with quality awareness, enabling them to design safe and efficient machines.

Course Content

The Machine Elements and Quality Knowledge course aims to teach the calculation and selection criteria for fundamental mechanical components such as bolts, shafts, pulleys, and gears, combining the design principles of machine parts with the importance of standardization in modern manufacturing. While understanding the working principles of these components, students also gain competence in areas such as total quality management, standards, tolerances, and technical measurement methods, acquiring the ability to verify the technical conformity of a product from design to assembly.

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 Can identify machine elements such as bolts, nuts, shafts, springs, bearings, and gears according to their structural characteristics and explain their basic functions in machine systems.
LO02 By analyzing the static and dynamic stresses (tension, compression, bending, torsion) to which machine elements are subjected, it is possible to perform basic dimensioning calculations within the framework of safety factors.
LO03 By comparing removable (screw, pin, wedge) and non-removable (welding, riveting) connection methods, one can select the most suitable connection type for a given construction and interpret its technical drawing according to standards.
LO04 Explains the fundamental principles of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, the importance of quality at every stage of production, and the functioning of documentation processes (such as TSE, DIN, and ANSI standards).
LO05 To verify that the manufactured parts conform to the technical drawing, measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges can be used; and "Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing" (GD&T) rules can be incorporated into the production process.
LO06 Basic quality tools (fishbone diagram, Pareto analysis, check charts) can be used to analyze errors encountered in the production process, and solutions can be developed within the framework of total quality management.
