Course Goal / Objective

The aim is to introduce the working principles of renewable energy systems such as solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal at a technical level, to analyze the effects of energy conversion processes on ecological balance, and to instill in future mechanical technicians the necessary professional perspective in the installation and operation phases of environmentally friendly energy technologies.

Course Content

This course examines the fundamental working principles of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydraulic, as well as the design and operation of mechanical systems that enable energy production from these sources. While addressing the impacts of energy production processes on ecosystems, carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable environmental policies, the course aims to equip students with the technical competence to understand clean energy technologies that can offer alternatives to the environmental damage caused by fossil fuels, and the maintenance and repair processes of these systems.

LO01 Students will be able to identify renewable and non-renewable energy sources, and technically compare their basic operating principles and their advantages/disadvantages.
LO02 It is possible to distinguish the structures of mechanical elements and constructions used in renewable energy systems such as solar panels, wind turbines, and biomass plants on technical drawings and diagrams.
LO03 They can assess the negative environmental impacts of energy production processes (carbon emissions, waste generation, etc.) and understand the ecological importance of sustainable production techniques.
LO04 By performing fundamental thermodynamic and mechanical calculations in energy conversion systems, it can offer improvement suggestions to increase system efficiency.
LO05 They gain knowledge about national and international environmental standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and energy policies applied in renewable energy projects.
